Senior Staff Profiles
Dr. Marc Rauch has a long history at Camp Kinder Ring, working with children and in the camping world. He attended Kinder Ring in the 80’s and 90’s as a camper, counselor and group leader. He is a third generation Kinder Ring alumnus. Marc returned to Kinder Ring three years ago with 10 years of experience consulting with camps and presenting for the American Camp Association. His wife Beth was a camper and counselor at Kinder Ring, and his two children are currently campers. Marc is a New York State Licensed Psychologist who has worked extensively within a school system and in private practice with children. Marc is a staunch child advocate who brings Kinder Ring the highest level of energy, enthusiasm and expertise. His passion for Kinder Ring and long history working with children and professionals make him an ideal leader. Marc strives to continue bringing to the campers the most innovative programming and activities. He has a vision to lead a new generation of Kinder Ring campers and show them why Camp Kinder Ring is “The Shining Star in the World of Camping.”
Jessica started as a camper in Bunk 2 in 1981 and grew up at camp to become a counselor and group leader. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from New York University. She and her husband Andrew met as campers and they got married at camp with the Sylvan Lake sunset behind them. Their two sons are now campers and are the 4th generation to share the traditions of Kinder Ring. Jessica loves working year-round with Kinder Ring’s families and staff members and can’t wait to start her 17th summer at camp in June.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR / GIRLS HEAD COUNSELOR
This will be Carol's 17th summer at Kinder Ring. She started as a camper and has since held many positions at camp, group leader, day camp coordinator, office assistant and unit head. Carol couldn't wait to return to camp with her three children. She loves to spend her time sharing her expertise and bringing excitement to girls side. Throughout the year Carol works with prospective families and shares all the incredible things about Kinder Ring with them. There is no other place she would rather be than in camp. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Economics with a minor in Business Communications. Carol is excited for all that the summer ahead has to offer.
BOYS HEAD COUNSELOR
This year marks the 9th summer at Camp Kinder Ring for Michael. This will be his fifth as the Boys Head Counselor. He had previously spent several summers working as the Upper Camp Boys Unit Head. Michael had spent 5 summers as Athletic Director at North Shore Day Camp in Glen Cove, N.Y. Michael's wife is a Kinder Ring Alumnus, having spent 10 years at camp. He has two daughters' that also attend Kinder Ring, When not spending his time at Kinder Ring, Michael teaches Mathematics at Bayside H.S. in Queens and is often seen coaching differing programs for the school – most recently the bowling team. He is very excited to be a part of the tradition that is Kinder Ring and looks forward to many years as part of the family.
This coming summer will be Josh’s 28th at Camp Kinder Ring. He started as a nine-year-old camper in 1985, and began working as a lifeguard on the waterfront in 1992, a position he held until 2006. After a three year leave to complete his Ph.D., in English at the University of Miami, Josh returned to the shores of Sylvan Lake, eventually assuming the directorship of our waterfront in 2011. In addition to holding Red Cross Certifications in Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instruction, and Lifeguarding Instruction, Josh also brings a wealth of experience working with children to our campus each summer. He is an award-winning, high school, English teacher; an Academic Dean; and the Diversity Coordinator at Ransom Everglades School in Coconut Grove, FL. Josh currently resides in Biscayne Park, FL, with his wife, Alli, and two children. They love nothing more than spending their time in their “home away from home.”
HEALTH CENTER DIRECTOR
Alisa and her children started at Camp Kinder Ring together in 2009. Her daughter is a staff member and her son will be a camper for his 7th summer. Alisa has been a nurse in our infirmary as well as our trip nurse, chaperoning and caring for our campers on our Teen Florida and Canada trips as well as many others. She may also be seen in Arts and Crafts, on the lake, or even participating in our tug of war. Camp Kinder Ring is truly her home away from home. Alisa has a BS in Business Administration from Northeastern University and a BS in Nursing from Fairleigh Dickenson University. She has worked for several years in an inpatient child psychiatry unit. She has also worked as a nurse at a day camp on Long Island, and continues to work as a substitute nurse for Jericho Schools. Alisa is very excited to begin her 2nd summer as the Health Center Director and to be a part of the Leadership Team.
Brian Purzak is returning to CKR for his 16th summer this year and will serve as our Athletic and Specialist Director. Brian began his love for Camp Kinder Ring as a camper in 1970, became a lifeguard and then Senior Lifeguard before leaving camp for a career in education after the summer of 1982. After a 27 year hiatus, Brian returned to Kinder Ring from 2009 – 2011 as a Unit Head and Director of Administration, and has coordinated our American Camping Association (ACA) Accreditation. Brian has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, a Master’s Degree in Special Education, a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. He has coached high school football as well as a multitude of youth sports and in his role as a school administrator; Brian has overseen and supervised several high school and middle school athletic programs. Brian's three children, have been in camp for many years. We are excited to have Brian at camp with us and are confident he will continue to make many positive enhancements to our Athletic Program.
ASSISTANT GIRLS SIDE HEAD COUNSELOR
This will be Geri's 20th summer at Kinder Ring. She started as a camper in 1977 and continued her camp life as a counselor and Group Leader. After taking an 18 year hiatus, Geri returned to Kinder Ring in 2008 with her 3 girls. Geri lives in South Florida with her 3 girls and husband Jon. Having worked in the KR Office for 7 years as an assistant and as the KR Office Manager, Geri is thrilled to be heading into her 2nd year on Girls side. She is so excited to share her love and enthusiasm for Kinder Ring with the campers and staff. Geri graduated from SUNY Albany with a Bachelors Degree in Business, and has her JD from the University of Miami School of Law. Geri looks forward to escaping the Florida heat and enjoying the beautiful NY summers on Sylvan Lake with her Kinder Ring family for many years to come.
ASSISTANT BOYS SIDE HEAD COUNSELOR
This will be Jeff’s tenth summer at camp and his eighth summer on Boy’s Side. He is a Physical Education Teacher and Coach for the Plainview Old Bethpage School District, where he has been working for the past 25 years. Jeff’s energy, enthusiasm and leadership have been loved and respected by the entire Kinder Ring community. His true passion is being with all the children in camp and ensuring they have the most incredible and enriching summer possible. His entire family loves Kinder Ring and all that it has to offer – His son Steven will be a second year staff member this summer and he has two other boys who are returning campers.
SPECIAL EVENTS CONSULTANT / ALUMNI RELATIONS COORDINATOR
After being a Kinder Ring camper, counselor, Group Leader, Assistant Head Counselor, Girls Head Counselor for 8 summers, and Associate Director for two years, Ilene is very excited to begin a new role of Special Events Consultant of Camp Kinder Ring. Ilene first had Kinder Ring in her blood from 1977-1986, she then brought her family back in 2002 and has been here ever since. Her daughter Marisa will again be on staff this summer after having amazing experiences as a camper here. Ilene's husband Joel is always around! He loves to help make Kinder Ring a more beautiful place and can be seen gardening here, there and everywhere! Ilene loves the Kinder Ring spirit and is proud to share it will all who step through our gates. Ilene has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education, a minor in Teacher Education from SUNY Albany and a Masters of Business Administration from Hofstra University. Ilene LOVES working at Camp Kinder Ring and along with a fabulous administrative team, is eager to plan the most incredible summer for all of you filled with everlasting FRIENDSHIP, LOVE and SPIRIT!
